"We came from Taliban held territory. On the way we heard that the Americans had started missile attacks. Since this was a safe place to be, we came here."

"These attacks should have been with U-N involvement. I don't know whether the timing of the attacks was right or wrong. We will have to wait and see what the results will be for the people of Afghanistan."

STORYLINE:

Refugees arriving in the Khoja Bahaodin camp in Northern Afghanistan on Monday expressed hope that the U-S led air strikes will bring peace to their country.

Khoja Bahaodin refugee camp is only 30 kilometres (20 miles) from Afghanistan's border with Tajikistan.

There are several thousand civilians in the camp which lies in a Northern Alliance stronghold.

It's also situated on an important Northern Alliance supply route.

Refugees arriving on Monday from Taliban controlled areas said they were happy the air strikes had started and hoped they would bring peace.

Over the last few days the Northern Alliance have held several parades, showing off their strength and equipment.

Many are now wearing western style military fatigues.
