Dubai appears to be the epitome of splendor. Dubai's attraction lies not only in the extravagance it provides but also in the manner it displays its excess. It's impossible to resist being enticed by the abundance of visual stimuli when you take a stroll down the glitzy streets. The city exudes an opulent allure that is unparalleled anyplace in the globe, from the 828-meter-tall Burj Khalifa to the glittering Dubai Mall with more than 1,200 retail establishments.

Americans were drawn to an amusing incident that occurred in 2014 when Eddie Hot Airways accidentally published a $230 round-trip cost to Abu Dhabi. People from all over the nation rushed to take advantage of the chance and poured into the United Arab Emirates, with many choosing to take a free shuttle to Dubai. Below its towers, which penetrate the clouds, is a story that is not prominently featured in glitzy tourist guides or on the Instagram feeds of famous people. The cover has started to come off thanks to documentaries and investigative stories, revealing the murky underside of the city's rapid growth.

In 2016, Vice News published a piece that was blatantly reported as saying, "Dubai, for all its glamour, relies heavily on a system not far removed from imported slave labor." This wasn't a sensationalist assertion; rather, it was a sobering illustration of a system that had been largely disregarded among the skyscrapers and opulent shopping centers.

Years ago, camel dwellers who relied on the sparse resources and dry environment of the area where Dubai now resides ruled the region. In just a few decades, the region went from simple Bedouin tents to a huge metropolis, which is nothing short of amazing.

But there are complexities and levels, just like in all stories. The story of Dubai is intertwined with both its forgotten past and its contemporary exterior. The city's quick development frequently obscures its modest beginnings. And it's not just about the architecture; it's also about the people, who are the heartbeat of this city.

The harsh reality of contemporary slavery in the UAE has been difficult for the world to accept. Stories of forced labor and exploitation are typically associated with a bygone age, but in this case, they are being told under the neon lights of one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world. According to a 2018 investigation, there are hundreds of workers trapped in a realm of mirages for every flashy tower that adorns the Dubai skyline, many of whom have had their passports taken.

Grandiosity and denial are frequently juxtaposed in Dubai's social scene. It's a place where celebration and oblivion coexist, where the clink of champagne glasses or the flash of a sports automobile frequently drowns out the murmurs of inequality. Many people like the ride, but few at the world's most opulent playground question the cost.
