The iliopsoas muscle is used for activities such as running, hiking, and going up stairs as it is a powerful hip flexor muscle. However, it is commonly tight in those who sit a lot or have a forward, guarded posture due to pelvic pain. Using an IntelliRoll or massage tool helps to alleviate iliopsoas tightness that leads to lower back pain, hip or groin pain, and inhibition of the deep abdominal "core" muscles. Your psoas muscle is found in your abdomen half way between your belly button and hip bone. Place the IntelliRoll over your psoas and lie on your stomach, propped up on your forearms. Remain in this position for 30-60 seconds, focusing on deep diaphragmatic breathing. If tolerated, bend your knee up and down for an active myofascial release and/or roll a small amount up and down.
