The production of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen is a milestone in the history of DNO. During the Wagner Year in 2014, former chief conductor Hartmut Haenchen together with his former Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra brought this tetralogy to a great musical success. In collaboration with stage director Pierre Audi, he developed the original version of 1999.
During the Opera Gala, in celebration of 50th anniversary season of DNO, a compilation of video material was shown. It's was played by the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra led by Marc Albrecht.
