Chief Jonathan Boyd was sworn in as leader of the Allen Fire Department during a special ceremony on August 9.
Friends, colleagues and family members gathered to watch as Chief Boyd took his oath of office in the City Council Chambers. His wife, Amanda, pinned his badge before City Manager Peter Vargas presented the official chief helmet.
"I can't imagine anyone being better prepared to take on the responsibility that Chief Boyd is taking on today," said Vargas.
Chief Boyd began his career with Allen Fire Department in 1996. He promoted to Division Chief in 2005 and Assistant Chief of Operations in 2012. In his role as Assistant Chief, he managed a $14 million operations budget with oversight of 98 employees. He also instituted new EMS training using a simulation mannequin, helped change dispatch procedures to reduce call processing time, and created a new leadership development program.
Following his early training as firefighter and paramedic, Chief Boyd graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from the University of Dallas in 2011. He received his Master of Public Affairs from UTD in 2013 and graduated from the Executive Fire Officer Program of the National Fire Academy in 2017.
Boyd will serve as the third fire chief in Allen since the department was formalized by City Council in 1963.
