I have been to Guagán Barra (Gougane Barra being the English spelling) many times and it never fails to inspire me. St Finbarr, Cork's best-known saint, was said to have built a monastery on the island in the lake in the 6th century.
The source of the River Lee rises in the hills above the park and flows into Gougane lake.
The small chapel or Oratory is said to be the most popular wedding venue in Ireland.
