Hazrat Data Mehbub Shah was a renowned Sufi Pir. Although the past biography of this great personality is still unknown. Data Baba left his body on 9 Chaitra 1298 according to Bengali calendar. Therefore, to commemorate his death anniversary, a big fair is held every year from 9th Chaitra to 15th Chaitra in this village called Patharchapuri of Birbhum district, which is known as Data Baba's Mela.
After traveling to different places, he came to Patharchapuri village and the people of Patharchapuri village arranged for him to live in that village. He gradually came to be known as Data Baba for his miraculous powers. At that time, people from all over the world came to him for his various strange actions and the welfare of people. Data Baba was a thin man with a long beard and long arms who always smiled. The festival takes a grand shape centered around Data Baba's shrine. Millions of visitors come to this fair. Apart from West Bengal, many people flock to this holy place from neighboring countries including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and even Bangladesh. Food is arranged for hundreds of thousands of people from Datababa's Langarkhana. Palanna is organized for Muslims and sweet and sinni for Hindus. Everyone gives chadar to fulfill their own beliefs and desires.
