Peni Moi was at university when he first became concerned for his mates. Although he’d had the opportunity to pursue further education, many of Peni's friends had dropped out of school early. He saw them sitting around without much to do, unable to find employment and getting into trouble with the law. Rather than turn his back on them, Peni wanted to help.
You don't have any right to judge anybody" Peni says "because you might be having your life served on a silver platter, but others don't have that opportunity".
Peni came together with some of his friends to brainstorm ideas, to help find solutions to their ongoing unemployment. Isireli Vuadreu had just come out of remand when he met with Peni.
"He told me how he was trying to start a cleaning business, so I have been involved in the business ever since,” said Isireli. “And today it feels as if I have never been a criminal in our community.”
Cleaning Wizard gives young men like Isireli the opportunity to learn new skills while providing a valuable yard clean-up service to the community. It’s just the beginning for Peni.
“I want to develop this to a company,” he said, “so that the boys can be shareholders when they grow up.”
