RAGA: GUNKALI: This delicate melody is associated with the early hours of the morning. It is pentatonic (“odava”) in character, since it omits “gandhar” and “nishad” from its “saptak”. “Dhaivat” and “Rishabh” are, respectively, its “vadi” and “samvadi” notes. “Gunkali” is presented here in “gat”, set to “roopak taal”, in seven “matras”.
