A jury in a civil court has found Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor guilty of raping a woman in a Dublin hotel in 2018, awarding her €248,000 (£206,000) in damages. The decision was delivered on Friday evening at Dublin's High Court after six hours and 10 minutes of jury deliberation.

The claimant, Nikita Hand, alleged that McGregor pinned her to a bed, choked her three times, and "brutally raped and battered" her during an encounter in the penthouse of the Beacon Hotel in December 2018. She stated that the assault left her with significant injuries, including bruises on her hands and wrists, a scratched breast, and tenderness on her neck.

McGregor, 36, denied the allegations, maintaining that their sexual encounter was consensual. His lawyers argued that the lawsuit was an attempt at "extortion." CCTV footage presented during the trial showed the woman arriving at and leaving the hotel with McGregor and James Lawrence, another man she accused of sexual assault. The jury found in favor of McGregor in this aspect, rejecting her claims against Lawrence.

McGregor's legal team urged the jury to focus solely on the evidence, regardless of personal opinions about the fighter. They pointed to the woman's prior contact with McGregor on social media and the events leading up to the incident, during which she reportedly joined him willingly at the hotel.
