North Korea condemned on November 23 recent joint military drills by the United States, South Korea and Japan, warning it would take immediate actions if needed to defend the state. Last week, the three countries conducted a three-day joint exercise named "Freedom Edge," involving fighter jets, marine patrol aircraft and the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington. The North's defence ministry issued a strong warning, urging the US and its allies to halt actions that could provoke instability and escalate tensions into a military confrontation on the Korean Peninsula. North Korea pledged to keep all options available, closely monitoring US and allied military activities.
