We are talking about Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Constitution of India.
Had it been Pandit Nehru's way, instead of Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chairman of the draft committee of the Constituent Assembly, British citizen Ivor Jennings would have been there. On 29 August 1947, the Constituent Assembly constituted the Drafting Committee. Churning was going on in the Congress regarding the committee. At that time, most of the decisions were taken by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel only.

In 1942, when there was a countrywide Quit India movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar was the labor minister in the British government at that time. To crush that movement, the British government killed more than 10,000 people and imprisoned more than 80,000 people. Meaning, the British government was suppressing those who raised the voice of independence and Ambedkar was a part of that government.

Ambedkar became the chairman of the drafting committee of the constitution. This committee presented the first draft of the constitution. By the way, this draft was first prepared by Benegal Narasimha Rao, a resident of Mysore and a well-known lawyer. It was only in 1943, after the Cripps Mission, that Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel gave him the responsibility of drafting the constitution. Later the same draft was examined by the Drafting Committee headed by Ambedkar.

Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar had to drink a sip of insults many times since childhood. It is a matter of 1901, when 10-year-old Bhimrao along with his brother reached Korgaon from Satara to meet his father, the bullock cart refused to take him from the station. He agreed to this on paying double the money. However, he put a condition that he would walk and Bhimrao would drive the bullock cart.

Constitution maker Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in a small village Mhow in Madhya Pradesh. Because of his belonging to the Mahar caste, he had to go through discrimination and social ill-treatment. Born to Ramji Maloji Sakpal and Bhimabai, Bhimrao's father was serving in the Mhow Cantonment of the Indian Army.

There is a funny story behind Bhimrao's Ambedkar surname. While writing the name of the school, his father Ramji got Ambedwekar written instead of Sakpal's surname. His name was written as Bhiva Ramji Ambedwekar. The real reason behind this was that he was a native of Konkan's Ambadwe village. That's why Ambedwekar surname was written in the name of the village. Bhimrao was very smart in studies since childhood. Because of which Krishna Mahadev, a teacher of the school, who was a Brahmin, was very fond of him. At his behest, Bhimrao added Ambedkar surname to his name.

Ambedkar took his B.A degree from the famous Elphinstone College in Mumbai. He later earned Ph.D degrees from Columbia University and the London School of Economics. Babasaheb's love for books can be understood from the fact that he had more than 35,000 books on the day of his death.

Babasaheb converted to Buddhism in 1956. In April 1906, when 16-year-old Baba Saheb was studying in fifth grade, he tied the knot with 9-year-old Ramabai. In 1913, at the age of 22, he moved to America, where he took admission in post graduation at Columbia University. He received a scholarship of $11.50 per month from Sayajirao Gaekwad III.
In December 1926, the Governor of Bombay nominated him as a member of the Bombay Legislative Council. He remained a member of the Bombay Legislative Council till 1936. On 13 October 1935, Ambedkar was appointed Principal of the Government Law College. In 1936, he founded the Independent Labor Party. Which won 13 seats in the Central Assembly elections in 1937. Babasaheb also became an MLA and remained active as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bombay Legislative Assembly.
