Magnus Carlsen absolutely disrespected Hans Niemann with an EPIC rook sacrifice on move 12 in the 2022 Airthings Masters tournament. This rook sacrifice by Magnus Carlsen was so shocking that Hans Niemann nearly lost his composure at the board!

In the game Hans Niemann was playing as White and he opened with 1.c4 (the English Opening) while Magnus went for a delayed Symmetrical English with the move ...c5. From there Hans Niemann siezed control of the middle of the board, but Magnus Carlsen slowly bided his time and looked for an opportunity to counterattack against Hans Niemann. Fortunately his chance came on move 12 when he got the chance to sacrifice his rook on the e3 square, giving up the full rook for Hans Niemann's precious dark-squared bishop!

This rook sacrifice was extremely disrespectful, but not necessarily bad! Magnus Carlsen got tremendous compensation for the sacrificed rook in the game, and went on to destroy Hans Niemann, although Hans Niemann certainly put up a strong fight throughout the game against Magnus Carlsen and his epic rook sacrifice!
