AWS Storage Gateway is a hybrid storage service that enables customers to extend their on-premises storage solutions to the AWS Cloud. It allows customers to securely store data in AWS, while also maintaining a local copy of the data on-premises.

Storage Gateway supports three different types of storage interfaces: file, volume, and tape.

Volume Gateway provides block storage, which appears as iSCSI devices to on-premises applications. Volume Gateway offers two different configurations:
- Cached Volumes, which store data in AWS S3 and maintain a cache of frequently accessed data on-premises, and
- Stored Volumes, which store the primary copy of data on-premises and asynchronously back up data to AWS S3.

Tape Gateway provides a virtual tape library (VTL) interface that enables customers to replace physical tape libraries with virtual tapes stored in AWS S3 or Glacier. This enables customers to reduce the cost and management overhead of physical tapes while still maintaining access to their existing backup applications.
