The Slingerland Super Sound King snare drum is one of the best ever made.It features the duel super snare strainer with fine tension adjustment on both the throw off and butt side. This snare drum was a gift to me by my friend Greg Austing who is a Slingerland fan and drummer who is restoring two Slingerland Buddy Rich 80N drum sets. He will be posting video`s soon about his Slingerland drums and I will have a link on this video once I get them. The Slingerland Super Sound King snare drum was made from 1967 to 1976. Slingerland made two version of this drum. The mechanisms of the strainer were essentially the same, but key parts in the 2nd version were more robust and had some cosmetics features that were added. The shell is the famous Slingerland chrome over brass shell with chrome over brass hoops. This gives the drum a very warm but powerful sound that will project very well.It takes a while to learn how to adjust this strainer, but once done,it is a very sensitive snare drum with great rim shot sounds. The snare you see in the video was made in 1970 and is a 5x14 inch model with the 2nd version of the Slingerland duel strainer. It has the strainer protector guards which is a very nice touch. First version was made from 1967 to 69,and the 2nd version made from 1970 to 76. I will post another video of me playing this great Slingerland Super Sound King snare drum with my Buddy Rich drum set. The two greatest drummers who ever played Slingerland drums was Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich. I got to see both of these great drummers live and meet them . Every drummer must thank Gene Krupa for what he did to bring the drums up front and for all of his great idea`s on how a drum set should sound like. Of course Buddy Rich put together one of the best Big Bands of all time and with his dynamic drumming which made the music so great to listen to.Both of these drummers were great friends and I`m so happy I got to know both of these amazing drummers. I will post some links to my tribute to Buddy Rich. Also some of my Ken Loomer Big Band so you can hear my Slingerland drums which to me is the best for the type of music that I play.I hope DW drums which now owns Slingerland drums, will make the kind of drum shells Slingerland was famous for.Just about every famous drummer at one point played Slingerland drums.Again I must thank Greg Austing for giving me this amazing snare drum and for doing all the work of restoring it to make it look brand new again.
