Parents who allow their children to use social media and messaging platforms despite age restrictions risk legal action for exposing them to harmful content.
Bukit Aman’s Sexual, Women, and Child Investigations Division (D11) principal assistant director, Siti Kamsiah Hassan, highlighted that Section 31 of the Child Act 2001 imposes a duty on parents to protect their children from abuse, including sexual exploitation.
Parents may also face legal action under Section 28, which addresses negligence in supervision and the failure to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
