Everything that you need to fit this bike rack comes in the box.
First, start by fitting the top straps. Open your boot and thread the straps over the top edge, leaving the dumbbells hanging inside the vehicle. Ensure they won’t be crushed when you close the boot. They should be approximately 45cm apart. Use the boot hinges as a guide for distance.
With the boot still open, feed the side strap around the boot lid. Hold it tightly and close the boot. Gently pull the side strap to remove any slack and then pull on the top straps so that the dumbbells rest snugly against the top of the boot. Check the side straps are wrapped around the boot itself, and are not pulling on the gas struts.
Next, adjust the rear rack. Loosen the handles and extend the arms out. Keep turning until the arms are correctly locked into position. You can see it's fitted properly when the teeth are clasped tight together
Now place the rack against the boot with the lower tube approximately 5 cm above the bumper. Adjust the support arm so that it sits against the upper or lower third of the rear window. Don’t place it in the middle, because it could cause damage when you apply pressure to it.
The rack rests against your rear windscreen which means you won't be able to use your rear wipers while it's attached. Some rear wipers automatically operate when reverse gear is selected, and this function should be disabled before using the rack.
Before fitting the rack, check whether it will cover your number plate. If it does, you may need to install a lighting board which you can pick up at Halfords.
There should be approximately 8cm between the rack and the boot. If the gap is too big or small, readjust the handles until it’s just right.
Now it’s time to fit the straps. Start with the top one and pass the strap through the top buckles. Tighten it up until the rack is resting 5cm above the bumper. Now pass the middle strap through the middle buckles and apply some pressure. This should secure the rack to your car.
Fit the lower straps by threading them through the lower buckles. Slide the metal hooks under your boot and tighten the straps. You can choose to have these on the bottom of the tailgate or on the chassis. Don’t fix to the bumper or too close to the exhaust.
To protect from damage, ensure that you only hook these on to metal, not plastic.
Once all the straps are in place, you can tighten them. You may need to adjust them to ensure that the rack is level on the car. Once you’re happy with the position, tighten them up with your hands until the rack is secure. Test it by pushing on it. If it moves, then tighten the straps again.
Now it’s time to fit the bike securing straps. Thread the ends through the loops of the straps, and you’re ready to load the bikes
Loading bikes on to the rack is easy. Start by placing a bike onto the slot that’s furthest away from you and closest to the boot. Place the crank facing the boot and do up the top straps. Next, place the second bike facing in the opposite direction and secure the rubber straps. The final bike faces the same way as the first bike.
Next, tighten the strap to secure the bikes on the rack. Ensure all bikes are safe and secure before setting off.
Before driving it’s important to check that only the rubber sleeves of the rack are touching the vehicle. Check that the rack is straight and secure.
