It is no secret that the U.S. was gunning for Sheikh Hasina on one pretext or the other. The U.S. has been asking Bangladesh to sign two defence pacts for many years now but without success. The proverbial last straw on the camel's back was when the U.S. sought to bully Sheikh Hasina into allowing American troops to set up a military base on Bangladesh's Saint Martin's Island.
