Chinese President Xi Jinping and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas jointly announced a “strategic partnership” between China and Palestine on Wednesday.
Xi voiced his support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full UN membership, while Abbas said a Palestinian state would support China’s one-China policy.
The announcement is the latest development in China-Palestine relations, with China increasingly assuming a mediating role in the Middle East after it helped broker the restoration of Saudi-Iranian relations earlier this year.
