The second wild animal we were able to find was this Northern crested newt, Triturus cristatus. A small female, very beautiful, and naturally quite eager to get away from us. One of the guys wanted to add some rotten leaves and whatnot to the water in the petbox to get a more natural background for photos, but of course our little friend immediately followed her instincts and as you will see the idea did not improve our photo ops. :-)
