In this video, I outline the main characteristics of the different types of growing materials. Soil, or topsoil, is super cheap but may lack nutrients. Potting mix is designed to contain everything you need (including wood chip, peat moss and perlite / vermiculite) for home gardening projects and plant pots. Compost is a great mix of nutrients and you can make your own with a compost bin or vermicomposting system! In the second half of the video, I will attempt a simple soil composition test with just a mason jar, dishwashing detergent and water! Try this on your own soil to find out whether your soil is good for growing and whether you have more loam, clay or sand in your soil! My goal is to create a channel for young people who want to learn how to grow edible produce without the need for a garden, special equipment or expertise!
