Nationals leader David Littleproud says Australia “can’t afford” Labor’s “all-renewables” approach to net zero.
Opposition leader Peter Dutton says he will not quit the Paris Accord or give up on net zero.
It is understood Mr Dutton's recent dismissal of the 2030 climate target was due to the goal being unachievable.
“What people in the city forget, and our Teal friends forget is, in achieving all this, you have to destroy our livelihoods in regional Australia,” Mr Littleproud told Sky News Australia.
“If they want wind turbines in their backyards, good luck to them, but we’ve got to be honest about this.
“We won’t be going to an all-renewables approach, and we won’t be going to 82 per cent renewables because we’re going to have to keep subsidising manufacturing to keep it alive in this country, and Australians can’t afford that.”
