You will need:
Chopped Gongura leaves / Ambadi / Sorrel leaves: 1 cup
Toor dal: ½ cup
Chopped garlic cloves: 2
Green chilies: 2
Chopped onions: 1
Curry ;eaves: 5 to 6
Hing / asafoetida: ¼ tsp
Red chili powder: ½ tsp
Haldi / turmeric powder: ¼ tsp
Taadka ingredients:
Urad dal: 1 tbsp
Whole red chilies: 2 to 3
Mustard seeds: ¼ tsp
Jeera / cumin seeds: ¼ tsp
Salt (as required)
Preparation:
Rinse toor dal (1/2 cup) with water twice
Add water and cook toor dal in pressure cooker for 4 to 5 whistles
Keep aside the cooked toor dal

In a vessel, add chopped gongura leaves (1 cup)
Rinse it properly with water twice
Keep aside the rinsed leaves

In a pan, add oil (3 tbsp) and let it heat
Add tadka ingredient (mustard seeds: 1/4 tsp, jeera / cumin seeds: 1/4 tsp, urad dal: 1 tbsp) and saute
Let seeds splutter
Add chopped garlic cloves (2), green chilies (2), whole red chilies (2 to 3), chopped onions (1) and saute till onions turn light golden
Add heeng / asafoetida (1/4 tsp) and mix well
Add gongura leaves and saute
Add haldi / turmeric powder (1/4 tsp), salt (as required) and mix well
Cover and cook for 2 to 4 minutes till gongura leaves are well cooked
Add cooked dal and mix well
Add red chili powder (1/2 tsp), water (1/4 cup) and mix well
Cook till dal thickens
Remove from flame
Transfer to a serving bowl
Gongura Pappu is ready
