Explaining how risk and hazard assessments can improve your safety program

How can risk assessments improve my safety program? In many ways. Risk assessments if done right can improve the interoperability between different elements such as using risk assessments to prioritize corrective actions after in incident investigations. Stick with me through this video and I will demonstrate how proper risk assessments can improve your safety program.

Hazard assessments need to drive your safety program! If hazards are identified, analyzed for severity and risks are calculated with consideration to the frequency the associated tasks are performed appropriate controls can be put in place. Having controls with significantly reduce the probability of these incidents occurring which will promote health and safety at the workplace by reducing, hopefully eliminating, worker injury, asset damage and or environmental impacts.

In this occupational health and safety training, hazard assessment training video I am going to dive deeper into the process of assessing risk, quantifying the severity of hazards and justifying the notion of the likelihood of occurrence. All of this process helps the safety professional with making the crucial decisions we need to make every day.

**Risk Defined**

Risk is the chance or probability of the manifestation of a consequence after the exposure to or the interaction with a hazard.
