We do a lot of things around La Fortuna and there's plenty of things to do in La Fortuna, Lake Arenal is just one of them. Lake Arenal (Lago Arenal) lays in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano... simply stunning. There's a lot of things to do on Lake Arenal- fishing, kayaking, Stand UP and Paddle 'SUP', Party Boat (highly recommended but can also be used to cruise around the lake and enjoy the day ;) ) and windsurfing are probably some of the most popular things to do on Arenal Lake. It's also a great option when travelling between La Fortuna and Monteverde (van, boat, van). A party boat or just a boat to cruise around the lake is a great time. Grill on the boat. Have some beers, enjoy the scenary, a 'party boat' is a great way to enjoy the lake.
It's strange, you don't see too much waterskiing and jet skis on the lake except for maybe holidays and such. Other than that, not so much. It's interesting, Lake Arenal is about 27 miles long and it has to be one of the most under-utilized lakes in the world. Yes, tourist use it for the above but as far as everyday use, you hardly ever see much activity on the lake. I'm thinking that's a good thing. But what a beautiful lake it is, especially on our side, the La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano side. sJust a note: It's the other side of the lake that is known for its wind surfing. Lake Arenal can be fun for the whole family.
