The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 has just burst onto the fully electric vehicle (EV) scene, bringing with it a midlife facelift that includes larger battery options (now up to 84kWh) that enables a longer driving range (now up to 570km). Better yet, a sporty N Line option package has finally been added.
As a result, the new Ioniq 5 has become a more competitive rival for the best-selling Tesla Model Y and other zero-emissions mid-size SUVs, including the mechanically related Kia EV6 as well as the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, among others.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Deputy Editor James Cleary gets behind the wheel of the updated Ioniq 5's aptly named Epiq flagship with the new 84kWh battery (with the familiar dual-motor AWD powertrain in tow) and N Line option package fitted to find if it should give buyers pause for thought before opting for a Model Y instead.
