Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir), Feb 02 (ANI): The largest tulip garden in Asia, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is undergoing expansion before it opens for tourists in the next two months. The authorities of the exquisite garden informed that tourists are always expecting something new every year and hence they have undertaken the task of presenting the visitors with the same. Authorities are now working round the clock in expanding the garden’s green space to forty to fifty kanals (5,445 square feet) by planting more flower seeds in order to provide more sitting and relaxing space for the visitors. The workers were seen spreading greenhouse shade nets over the planted area in order to prevent the freshly planted delicate saplings from extreme temperatures and weather conditions. The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is located in the foothills of the Zabarwan hill and overlooks the famous Dal Lake. Formerly known as ‘Siraj Bagh’, the tulip garden was opened in 2007 by the then state chief, Ghulam Nabi Azad. The annual celebration of Tulip festival showcasing over two million tulips of 46 varieties is one of the key tourist attractions during the onset of spring season in the valley. By April, tulips are usually in full bloom in and around Srinagar, lending an ethereal atmosphere to the valley, which has been dubbed by many as Paradise on Earth.
