Humana People to People is an incredible global network devoted to addressing vital social and environmental issues through community-based initiatives. Their work in AIDS prevention is truly inspiring.
This video project has opened my eyes to the fact that AIDS isn't just a health issue—it's about social justice, gender equality, and human rights. Preventing AIDS means more than just spreading awareness; it's about empowerment and creating safe spaces for girls and young women.
Working on this project has been an inspirational experience for our team. Meeting the girls in the DREAMS club was truly amazing. Having young women help one another and pursue their dreams in a challenging climate is something that should be celebrated and further supported so even more women can join them and have similar success stories for years to come.
Rhoda is one of these young women whose story we closely followed. She was held back in her younger years as her family was unable to pay for her school fees. She joined the DREAMS club where she got training in vocational skills and is now working as a motorcycle mechanic. She has become financially independent, skilled, and has the means to support her child and family.
I asked her what her favourite thing about her new career was. She told me it was how proud she felt to achieve her dream and inspire other girls in her village to go out and pursue their own. It's a powerful reminder that we all have a role in supporting our communities.
