Cambodia's Funan Techo Canal, a $1.7 billion project, is set to break ground in Q4 2024, spanning 180 km through four provinces. The waterway, 100m wide upstream and 80m downstream, aims to connect the Mekong and Bassac rivers. Despite concerns from Vietnam about Mekong River impact, Cambodian officials assure its minimal effects, backed by a 26-month study. The canal project includes three dams, 11 bridges, and a 208 km sidewalk, with a four-year completion timeline. The Cambodian government asserts full control over the project, emphasizing its transformative impact on Cambodia's infrastructure and international political landscape.
