Born in 1630, Shivaji's upbringing under the guidance of his mother, Jijabai, prepared him for leadership. At the age of 17, he initiated his conquests by capturing the fort of Torna, setting off a series of events that challenged the Adil Shah Dynasty and led to the imprisonment of his father, Shahaji Raje Bhosale. To secure his father's release, Shivaji formed alliances with Mughals and continued to expand his territory, taking control of forts like Raigad, Kondana, and Pratapgad.

As his reputation grew, he faced opposition from Badi Begum, widow of the late Adil Shah, who viewed him as a threat. Badi Begum appointed Afzal Khan, the Chief General of the Adil Shah Dynasty. This tension culminated in a letter from Afzal Khan demanding Shivaji return the captured forts and apologize in their court. Shivaji, known for his strategic brilliance, responded with an invitation for peace talks at Pratapgad Fort. The ensuing events, filled with twists and turns, showcased the power of intellect and strength, ultimately leading to the establishment of the Maratha empire.
