Amusing and rather unpleasant footage has emerged of a cat who doesn't seem to quite understand how his litter box works.

The video, filmed in Hackney, shows two-year-old Tuxedo Tabby, Alfie, standing head first inside his litter box.

Much to his owner's dismay, naughty Alfie is doing his business onto the floor outside.

The funny clip was captured by Alfie's owner Gaby Proctor, who claims he's never behaved like this before.
