Matric learners from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape have mixed emotions about the recent announcement by the Department of Basic Education that exam results will no longer be published. The department has cited the Protection of Personal Information Act as the reason, saying releasing learners' personal information would be in contravention of the act.
Some pupils agree, saying it will help decrease the suicide rate associated with the release of matric results. But other learners want the long-standing tradition to remain.
