Russia's defence ministry released on Friday footage of its tank divisions undertaking military drills.
The division, shown firing from T-90M "Proryv" ("Breakthrough" in Russian) tanks, was said to be the Western Military District tank unit.
Crews were said to be practising hitting targets at distances up to 5 km (3.1 miles), imitating enemy armoured vehicles and aircraft in a military training ground in N Russia's Leningrad.
The exercises came as Germany approved the export of Leopard 1 battle tanks to Ukraine from industry stocks on Friday.
On the same day, Ukraine’s armed forced conducted military drills in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, next to the border with Belarus.
Drills involved Soviet-era self-propelled howitzers called 2S3 Akatsiya and were aimed at increasing troops readiness.
As snow fell, servicemen fire howitzers and rifles in the 30-km exclusion zone around defunct nuclear power plant.
Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, warned the possibility of Russian assault from all front around the date of February 24.
Drills came as Ukraine has secured pledges of weapons from the West offering new capabilities.
Putin said on Thursday that Russia was once again confronting Germany on the battlefield, as he criticized Berlin's early promise to deliver Leopard 2 tanks to support Ukraine on the battlefield.
