You might have noticed that I was using some tiny inexpensive Sony speakers to do the initial test runs on my DIY projects. I have gotten tired of hearing how tinny they sound and how little they reveal, so I thought I would find a nice DIY speaker project to replace them. The speakers might also work as surround speakers with a vintage Adcom amplifier I have.
I have seen the Hi-Vi DIY3.1A three-way speakers covered by Z Reviews and other YouTube hobbyists. I was intrigued by how closely they resemble the sexy new Wharfedale EVO 4.2. I was also impressed at how affordable they were while still maintaining high quality.
I have built them and I am very impressed with their value. Everything to build two speakers for $299. With the DIY Perfectionist Crossover Mod they sound very clean and neutral. I don't know how they compare to budget classics from Elac or Emotiva, but they are a DIY bargain.
