This dish is a combination of cooked dals and kothavarangai. This is a healthy dish as it has Dals and steam cooked. This goes well as a side dish for Mor Kuzhambu.
Ingredients – To Soak and Grind:
• Toor Dal (to Soak and Grind) – 1/4 cup
• Chana Dal (to Soak and Grind) – 1/4 cup
• Red Chili (to Grind) – 4
• Hing (to Grind) – 1 tsp
• Salt (to Grind) – to taste
Ingredients:
• Kothavarangai/Cluster Beans – 1 cup
• Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
• Salt – to taste
Ingredients To Temper:
• Oil – 2 tbsp
• Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
• Urad Dal – 1 tsp
• Curry Leaves
• Turmeric Powder
• Coconut Oil (Optional) – 1 tbsp
Directions:
1. Soak Toor dal and chana dal for about 1 to 2 hours. Grind coarsely the soaked dals, 4 red chilis, Hing and Salt. (No water required to grind).
2. Grease the idli plates with oil. Place the grounded mixture in the idli plates and steam it for 15 mins. Once cooled, crumble the mixture in a bowl.
3. Add kothavarangai, turmeric powder, salt and water into a pan. Cover and cook for about 10 mins. (Make sure it is fully cooked and the water is absorbed completely)
4. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, turmeric powder, crumbled dal mixture. Saute for 2 to 3 mins. Add 1 tbsp coconut oil(optional).
5. Add the cooked kothavarangai and saute for about 2 to 3 mins. Switch off the stove.
