This video is an alternative to the Carveco Inlay wizard. It is a little unorthodox and need to pay close attention to Male portion and the fact that it will start at 0.2in deep. You need to go SLOW with a 15deg V bit.

Conduct to roughing and clearing paths before the Vcarve. This way are only cutting on half of the bit and the other half is already cleared away.

If you have fragile letters they may just break off in MDF. If you go slow and have some scrap hard wood I would just try that. If your letters are more block or solid a test in MDF should work just fine.
