This small area game works on players breaking pucks out of their own zone in a confined area.
Description:
The nets are set up cross-ice in the end zone. Two teams set up outside of the blue line in groups of 3. The Coach starts the play by chipping the puck into one corner. All the players must now skate behind the opposite net as the offensive team go into break out positions and the defending team goes into defensive positions. Play now continues 3@3 for 25-40 seconds.
Key Points:
-The team breaking out should always be the first ones to skate behind the net. Offensive players should move into positions to make themselves available for a break out pass and be able to support their teammates.
-On the defensive side, players should work on their attack angles during the initial forecheck and talk a lot to sort out their defensive coverage.
-Excellent SIG to work on break out and forecheck basics in a small area.
