A panel with different perspectives and experiences of ethnic minority achievement discuss why it is that some black boys are underachieving at school. Gilroy Brown and Dr Lorna Cork from the School Effectiveness Division, Birmingham, Chris Welford, headteacher at Welford Primary in Handsworth, and Henroy Green from the National Black Boys Can Association, come together to discuss the subject. Is it the fault of the education system, the parents, a combination of factors, or simply the fault of the boys themselves? The panel offer their own opinions on what needs to be done to help the boys to fulfil their true potential whilst at school, and ensure that they are equipped with the right tools and self-esteem to succeed in their adult lives when they leave school.
