These Idaho Pasture Pigs are all going to the butcher.. We wanted to get a video to demonstrate how easy it is to move these pigs, so we moved them up to a closer pasture the day before we took them to butcher. They have never walked up this runway before and have only walked down it to their new pastures when they were about 4 months old and moved from the smaller pens into the larger pens. They are feeder pigs, so we do not go in with them on a regular basis and yet they are extremely friendly and as you can see in the video - very easy to move. This breed of pig is easy to work with if you follow a few steps. Never chase the pigs. Never force the pigs. Just redirect and let them have a few minutes to relax if needed. Be patient! We use pig boards to redirect when needed. We also have a 16 foot runway that enables us to use a hog panel across it to change their direction into a pen we want them in. I can do a move like this by myself, which makes getting things done on the farm much easier. All of our pastures have gates out into this runway and we put the trailer at the end of it when we load for butchering or if larger pigs get sold and need a trailer to travel. www.whitebisonfarm.com
