(3 Apr 2020) A London central market is donating thousands of bags of fresh fruit and vegetables everyday to frontline healthcare workers battling coronavirus.
Darren Henaghan, Managing Director of Borough Market said they were delivering 4,000 bags on Friday.
Henaghan told the Associated Press that footage of exhausted National Health Service (NHS) staff made them want to do something to help.
"They can go home and they don't have to worry about one thing that day," Henaghan said.
Workers loaded boxes with bags of fruit and vegetables onto a van and delivered them to four of London's major hospitals on Friday.
London's Borough Market's 'Feed the Frontline' campaign has initially been funded by private businesses throughout the month of April and aims to run throughout the peak of the COVID-19 crisis.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.
For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and could lead to death.
