In this video, the fourth in a series, attorneys share their insight on how doctors can provide successful testimony and avoid inadvertently assisting the plaintiff's attorney. What physicians should know:
• Don't do medical research unless your attorney instructs you to do so. In that case, it's privileged. If you do research on your own, findings have to be released to the plaintiff's attorney.
• Keep a calm, consistent demeanor during deposition or testimony—no matter who's asking the questions.
• Don't be distracted by plaintiff's tricks at depositions or in court.
• Only answer questions to the best of your ability—don't speculate.
The attorney featured in this video participated in The Doctors Company's Annual Legal Summit, where top legal experts gather to discuss claims trends, analyze plaintiff strategies, and develop best practices to defend and protect doctors.
