When she was 23 years old, Private Romay Catherine Davis sailed across the Atlantic with the 6888th Battalion. It was the first and only all-female, all-Black and all-Hispanic battalion sent overseas during World War II. Their mission was to get desperately needed mail to U.S. soldiers, officials and the Red Cross. During the 11-day journey from New York to London, German U-boats repeatedly targeted the ship, but they safely arrived in Glasgow, Scotland in the winter of 1945. Now 102-years old, Private Davis recounts these encounters and how she faced them with courage.
