Today, I am going to use pumpkin to make Steamed Rose Buns. This is the beautiful yellow rose buns I made. See how pretty they are!
Let’s start it.
The ingredients are pretty simple. You may also find it in description section below.
Peel the pumpkin and remove seeds. Take 250 grams to cut into small pieces.
Add 200 grams of water and blend.
We only collect juice for this recipe. Because we want to make beautiful smooth flower.
Take 2 cups of all-purpose flour. 1/8 cup of sugar, 2 tsp of instant yeast.
Add pumpkin juice bit by bit while stirring.
Knead the dough by hand till smooth.
Then we add 15 grams of coconut oil and knead the dough till smooth.
Rest the dough about 15 minutes to shape.
After 15 minutes, flour the board. Flatten the dough.
Roll it again and you can hear the voice of air bubbles breaking.
Now I divide the dough into small pieces, 18 grams each.
I do not usually measure the dough all the time. But this time, I want the rose petal to be the similar size.
Save the small dough in a container and put them in fridge to avoid over fermentation during shaping.
Dust dough on both sides.
Roll it with a rolling pin toward center till the diameter is about 4.5 inches as you can see.
Keep rolling rest of doughs, just like making dumpling wrappers.
Now we start to shape.
It’s summer. The dough raises very fast. Keep in mind, you may need to roll it again if the air bubbles appear. We will need a smooth dough to make beautiful rose.
Layout 4 wrappers. Overlap them from the center. Keep the width as the same.
Now we make a stamen. Roll it from the edge tightly though.
Put the stamen at the end and roll over carefully. Make sure the length of stamen is the same as all wrappers. We don’t want the stamen to be too long.
Pinch close the end. You may apply a bit water for help.
Cut it to 2 small buns evenly. Apply thin layer of flour at the bottom.
Pinch a bit.
Then we make rose petal gently by fingers. Just like this.
These are rose buns we just made. Pretty, right!
OK, I put them back to complete fermentation under room temperature. After 20 minutes, the bun sized up 1.5 times.
Start to steam by medium heat. Steam about 12 minutes.
When steam is done, do not open the lid immediately. Leave it about 4-5 minutes and let the buns cool down gradually.
Now, it’s time to take out!
Look at this!
The color comes from nature ingredient. Since the wrappers are handmade, each one is slightly different. Don’t worry about that. Every single bun will be unique and beautiful.
Taste it! Fluffy and soft with pumpkin and coconut flavor.
