This is a video in my new Speculative Fiction Studies series, which examines and analyses key aspects of classic and contemporary works in the genres that fall under the broad rubric of speculative fiction. This includes fantasy, science fiction, horror, alternate history, weird, cyberpunk, utopian, post-apocalyptic, and superhero fiction, among other genres
This video focuses on Ursula K. Leguin's short story, "The Rule of Names", which takes place in her Earthsea narrative universe. We discuss the characters, the plot, and several key aspects of the Earthsea setting.
