The first version of this episode I released had some editing issues. I think I've fixed it with this release.
Bill and I fiberglass some small parts on the Petrel Play SG kayak. We are building my Petrel Play SG kayak design from a kit by Chesapeake Light Craft (CLCBoats.com) [ Ссылка ].
In this episode Bill and Nick continue building the Petrel Play SG, a stitch and glue sea kayak. In the previous episode, we glassed the interior of the deck, and now it's time to work on glassing various components like the bulkheads, cheek plates, coaming rings, and skeg pieces. The glassing process involves wetting out the fiberglass with epoxy to create a smooth finish. We're paying careful attention to important details like filling holes with epoxy and applying peel ply to remove excess resin.
During the assembly, we're using cellulose to thicken the epoxy, ensuring that the adhesive stays in place without running. We're taking a meticulous approach to each step, strategically applying epoxy to adhere all the components together. This attention to detail will ensure that the finished kayak is strong and well-constructed. Additionally, we're incorporating the use of peel ply, a nylon fabric that does not stick to epoxy and helps create a smoother finish.
As we progress with the fiberglassing process, we're focused on creating a lightweight but durable layup for the kayak. We are making sure to handle different parts with care, including the coaming risers, and undertake each step methodically. This attention to detail ensures that each component will come together seamlessly, leading to a high-quality finished product. Throughout the process, there's a cautious and thoughtful approach that will ultimately lead to the successful completion of the kayak.
