The introduction of Yahweh to an already established Canaanite religious pantheon, with deities that had been known and worshiped for centuries created a serious conflict within the Canaanite society.
El was the Supreme god and Yahweh was a storm/war deity just like Baal.
The main interest of Yahweh worshipers was to vanquish Baal, who under Canaanite religion shared the same attributes as Yahweh.
The goal was the eventual elevation of Yahweh to become one with El and assume all the powers and attributes of El.
The conflation was perfected with the addition of second Samuel 22:32 that states… “Who is El except Yahweh”?
