(6 Feb 2017) Four-hundred-and-ninety-three migrants arrived in the Sicilian port town of Augusta on Monday following six separate rescue operations the previous day.
In total, around 900 were saved as a result of the operations.
The migrants had been travelling on three rubber dinghies, two small boats and a larger wooden boat.
The 493 arrivals in Augusta were brought to shore by the Spanish Navy ship Canarias, which has been a part of the European Union's Naval Force Mediterranean (EUNAVFOR MED) operation - a scheme designed to eliminate established refugee smuggling routes.
