The Senate Joint Committee on Defence, Army, Navy, and Airforce convened a closed-door session on Wednesday with the nation's service chiefs to address the recent killing of troops in Okuoma community, Bomadi local government area of Delta State. Present at the meeting were the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa; the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja; the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan; and the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.
The closed meeting, which commenced earlier in the day, focused on analysing the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and exploring strategies to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The Senate committee engaged in comprehensive discussions with the service chiefs, delving into various aspects of the security situation in the affected region.
After several hours of deliberation, the meeting concluded shortly after 6 pm, with details of the discussions remaining undisclosed to the public. The outcome of the closed-door session is anticipated to provide insights into the government's response to the security challenges facing Delta State and to reassure the public of efforts to address the underlying issues contributing to the violence.
