New Zealand volunteers have formed a human chain in the shallows of a remote South Island beach as they tried to save some of the more than 400 pilot whales that had beached themselves. About three-quarters of the group were already dead when they were found Friday morning at Farewell Spit. Auckland University Marine Biologist Rochelle Constantine says it was the nation's third largest recorded stranding.
