FLATTENING THE CURVE
According to some data that was released yesterday, we're managing to flatten the curve. Which is probably something you've heard about a lot recently, so what does it actually mean? Well, the curve is a graph that shows how the number of COVID-19 cases can grow over time, with and without social distancing. Without social distancing, there is a steep increase in COVID-19 cases, more than hospitals can handle. When we bring in social distancing measures, though, the curve flattens, and our hospitals are able to keep up.
So how do we actually flatten it? The instructions are simple. Prevent the spread of the virus by staying inside, wash your hands, and keep your distance. It's a game us Aussies are playing pretty well. While the number of COVID-19 cases is still rising in Australia, our curve is slowly flattening. We are not out of the woods yet though, if we don't keep physical distancing, COVID-19 cases could shoot right up. The government says we’re playing the long game here, but it's one that we all need to win.
WUHAN OPENS BACK UP
There've been celebrations in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where lockdown measures have ended. It became official at the stroke of midnight when Wuhan was lit up by a special light show celebrating health care workers. Wuhan was where the COVID-19 virus was first discovered back in December, and for a while, it was the worst affected place in the world.
But China says that thanks to some super tough quarantine measures, it's managed to stop the spread. Things aren't totally back to normal. The Chinese government's keeping track of people to make sure they're healthy before they can travel.
YEAR 12 ANNOUNCEMENTS
It's been a pretty stressful time for all Aussie school kids, so imagine what it's like for year 12 students. They've been waiting to hear what's going to happen with exams, and whether or not they'll actually be able to graduate. Well, yesterday they got some answers. The government announced they'll all be able to finish this year. We wanted to know how they're feeling about it, so we got in touch with some year 12 students.
NZ POLICE VIDEO
NZ police have asked creative people from across the country to make videos, to keep people in the know, and entertained, through this tough time.
INDIA POLICE HELMETS
Meanwhile, police in India are doing things a little differently. Wearing spiky helmets and holding spiky sticks, they took to the streets to tell people to stay at home and practise social distancing.
BOLIVIAN POLICE DRESS UP
Speaking of unique, there's nothing like a giant virus chasing after you to remind you to stay at home. The police in Bolivia wanted to make a point about telling people to respect the country's restrictions on public gatherings.
